This weekend has become a time to celebrate. The end of school. The start of summer. Longer days, starry nights. Swimming, lake fun, sunshine and snow cones. Beer and BBQ and a little Texas country around here.
Because we can.
We can do all of those things because of them.
The 500,000 Americans killed in the Civil War.
The 116,000 Americans killed in WWI.
The 405,000 Americans killed in WWII.
The 54,000 Americans killed in the Korean War.
The 90,000 Americans killed in the Vietnam War.
The 1,500 Americans killed in the Gulf War.
The 6,800 Americans killed in the War on Terror.
And all the Americans killed in other battles before and even those battles yet to come.
To these men and women, their families, friends and loved ones – we say thank you.
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your commitment.
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Thank you for our freedom.
To worship. To gather. To laugh. To love. To live.
Because of you we have a reason to celebrate.
May we never forget.
