So Samantha and I are in very different situations when it comes to childcare. Samantha is a working Mom and has two out of 3 kids in daycare. I am a stay-at-home-while-doing-part-time-work-Mom and one of my kids goes to a Preschool/Mother’s Day Out Program. This week you guys are truly getting two different sides of this Mom thing…
Here’s a little refresher in case you don’t know me… I have a 3 year old boy and almost 2 year old girl (19 months apart). My kids are closeeeee in age. I mean I was basically pregnant for 2.5 years. JOY. Anyway when I was pregnant with my little girl I may have had a mild panic attack one day when I was exhausted and really realized that I would soon have TWO children. So I began my search for MDO’s and preschool programs in Bryan-College Station. A friend mentioned that I needed to check out Christ United Methodist’s School For Little People and I was immediately won over!! Plus trusty Facebook told me that lots of my friend’s kids already went to SFLP and what better referral is that?
We signed my son up for the Two’s class and haven’t looked back. Our family loves School For Little People and they love our kids. The staff is amazing, the teachers are caring and passionate and the school hallways are filled with fun, bright bulletin boards and children’s art. My son loves his preschool even more than I do because his teachers are so wonderful and his class is filled with bouncing little friends to have fun with.
SFLP has five age groups for classes: Toddlers, Two’s, Three’s, Four’s (Preschool) and even a private Kindergarten class. Whether you want/need two days, three days or four days a week to do your thing, SFLP offers it. It is a super desirable program to put your kid in so classes fill up fast. My suggestion is to find out when registration is and show up EARLY.
So I’m crazy and have three kids under 3. My girls are 2.5 and my son is 6 months old. Getting twins into daycare at the same time is tough! Whether you choose either of our fabulous recommendations or not, get on the list right away! I cannot possibly stress this enough. I was clueless about how long those lists really are.
My girls currently attend St. Thomas Aquinas Child Development Center full time and just hit the one year mark of attendance! St. Thomas Aquinas CDC begins accepting babies at 6 weeks old and offers classes up until Kindergarten! I ended up at St. Thomas Aquinas CDC after an extensive and exhausting search. I had not yet realized how strong mommy intuition was. After reading several recommendations, I decided to go take a look. It was the first place that I stepped inside that made me relax and feel like everything was really going to be okay! (I was pregnant with twins, afterall!) Nailed it. Filled out the paperwork right then and there.
I drop my kids off every morning knowing that not only are they having fun but they are learning and they are loved. The girls and I have gotten to know a lot of the teachers and staff and admire them for their compassion and enthusiasm. I have enjoyed watching their relationships with their friends grow and seeing them develop as individuals and not just “twins”. (Multiple moms take note: they’re great at this twin thing!)
